Since it’s still snowy and cold in Ohio I wanted to post another shot from our trip to New England in June 2009. Here is a shot of the blossoms at Portland Head Lighthouse in Portland, Maine. It’s hard to find a picture of Portland Head that doesn’t include these prolific pink flowers.

Caught this shot at the bottom of Hickory Nut Falls near Chimney Rock. It wasn’t an overly warm morning, but it was pretty humid and recent rains had filled the falls. This picture was taken in October, when we were at the falls in late June/early July the falls were barely a trickle – so it was good to see them picked up.

This is the view from the deck, just off the loft of the house my family rented while staying at Lake Lure. Looking out over the mountains, even with cloudy skies, was a real treat when you’ve got a setup like this.

Caught this shot while hiking at the Rock House – near Old Man’s Cave. One of my favorite places, locally, to hike, the “Rock House” has a ton of these windows that pass out into the woods.

Another macro picture I took on my Canon Rebel XT. Fixed the shot on macro and dialed in the details with a short focal length. I caught this shot while we were hiking around the park area that leads up to Chimney Rock. It’s amazing all the detail that’s present, if you just stop long enough to look.

Caught this sunset pictures off the balcony of our cabin in the mountains. As is typical with the Smokey’s, the natural haze really set this shot up for me. It’s hard to take a bad sunset pictures in those mountains. Simply wait till the light is waning and click in the direction of the color — Mother Nature has taken care of the rest.

Another shot from our camping adventures — this time, from Old Man’s Cave State Park. As we hiked down through the valley, I was able to snag this shot down by the river as the rest of the group hiked ahead (both dogs, Jack and BB, in tow) We had great weather for this trip – and I’m really looking forward to camping there again next summer.

Had a chance to go camping again at Burr Oak State Park – and just like every time we stay here, the lake was our favorite target for entertainment. Spent a chunk of our time out on the water enjoying the sunshine and tooling around the lake. A great time with great friends.

Caught this shot of a cactus just outside the Alamo. It was a wonderfully warm Spring day (80+, early March) and snowing in Ohio, so that made this shot even sweeter. Other than a saguaro, this is the largest cactus I had ever seen.
