Winter Reminder

February 1st, 2010

Nothing like a big snow storm in February to remind everyone that we’re still months away from Spring (for anyone who thought maybe we were getting there early this year) The region was hit hard by a big storm that dropped 12+ inches of snow on our town. Most of the snow came on Friday night which means most of the weekend was spent inside preparing for the coming week.

Beautiful blue skies over bright fall colors

October 29th, 2007

The landscape is changing every single day. It’s like someone has their thumb on the tint control and is adding reds and oranges and yellow to every shot. The weather, in the afternoons, is still gorgeous, but its getting cold overnight and in the mornings. Beautiful blue skies over bright fall colors sounds like a line from a tourist brochure, but you can even see it in my backyard this week.

Short break

It may have only been a short stay, but the warm weather was greatly appreciated this week. A couple days in the 70s released us out into the sunshine to soak up some rays and snap a few pictures. This shot is from the metropark (again) The sun gives me hope that the warmth will be back to stay soon.

Bleak Sky

February 19th, 2007

Caught this shot at the metropark near our apartment. Our winter hasn’t been very snowy, but it’s been as bleak and cold as any I can remember. Well into February, I’m longing for a break in the clouds for some good sunshine. I thought the contrast of the dark trees on the gray sky was striking.

Blanket

February 12th, 2007

Our first real storm of the winter. I’ve waited patiently for months to get a good snowfall and it took till mid-February for it to happen. With blizzard conditions, Toledo ground to a halt mid-week. It snowed, nearly non-stop, for two days and gave us quite a blanket of snow. Thankfully, we dodged the ice that fell to our south.

Shift

Traveling back from North Carolina over the weekend, I witnessed this odd change of weather. It was chilly but relatively mild over the weekend. The day I made my break for home, a winter weather system was headed into the mid-west, preparing to strike the Ohio valley with a closed fist. I was heading east when I took this shot and high above me the system was already forcing its way into the area.

Negative

January 29th, 2007

The cold grip of winter finally grabbed us this week. Everyday, the temperature struggles to get above 10 degrees. Windchills stay between -15 and -25. Midmorning, on this particular day, the temperature was a steamy -1 degree Fahrenheit. I can’t imagine that it can stay this cold for very long. In the meantime, we’re all staying bundled up.

Autumn Flakes

October 2nd, 2006

Hard to believe the first snowflakes of the year fell on such a beautiful fall day, but they did. Between the breaks of sunshine thick clouds rolled over and we had repeated snow showers for the afternoon. The trees at the park didn’t seem to care one bit though and just followed their mid-autumn routine.

Ambush

December 5th, 2005

We got hit with our first substantial snowfall of the season this week. It was one of those fast snows, where it snows steady and straight down for hours. By morning, we had right around 6 inches of snow — not bad for a first punch. The whole city seemed asleep when I took this picture, the few sounds there were, seemed far away and muted. After I took the picture, I trudged around in the snow for a while. There’s something about hearing the crunch of snow under your feet that compels you to keep walking around just to hear it.

Still not spring

February 14th, 2005

It about this time of year, that everyone starts getting ansy for it to warm up… and I’m no exception. More snow this week reminds me that it won’t be warming up anytime soon. Thankfully, Spring Break ’05 is looming in the wings.
