At the bottom of the falls

Caught this shot at the bottom of Hickory Nut Falls near Chimney Rock. It wasn’t an overly warm morning, but it was pretty humid and recent rains had filled the falls. This picture was taken in October, when we were at the falls in late June/early July the falls were barely a trickle – so it was good to see them picked up.

Caught this shot of the Broad River as it snakes along near Chimney Rock. Crouching near the river with my telephoto lens, I was able to grab this shot.

Burr Oak

Had a chance to go camping again at Burr Oak State Park – and just like every time we stay here, the lake was our favorite target for entertainment. Spent a chunk of our time out on the water enjoying the sunshine and tooling around the lake. A great time with great friends.

This shot is from a camping trip I took a few summers ago with a buddy of mine. We spent most of our time that weekend out on the water, tooling around in a little fishing boat – not catching too much – but having a great time. The place was pretty well empty and we had the run of the lake for most of the day. A great weekend – and a great time camping — I can’t wait to go again.

Slow water

This shot is of a meandering river we found between Mountain City, Tennessee and Damascus, Virginia on our way to Blacksburg, Virginia to visit the campus of Virginia Tech. It was an overcast day and the conditions were just right to shoot a slow shutter speed and let the river move. Shutter drag is such an amazing effect, a little extra time and the results speak for themselves.

VTThe nation mourns with you.

Luna Pier

September 18th, 2006

A shot from Luna Pier on Lake Erie. It was a cool windy day on the lake and lots of sailboats were out enjoying the end of their summer fun. Won’t be too much longer till these piers are covered in snow and forgotten till the first warm day in the spring. I’ve visited this pier as long as I can remember. My parents used to bring me here when we camped in the area. Now, just a short drive from Toledo, when I get some free time, it’s nice to drive up and relax.
