At the bottom of the falls

Caught this shot at the bottom of Hickory Nut Falls near Chimney Rock. It wasn’t an overly warm morning, but it was pretty humid and recent rains had filled the falls. This picture was taken in October, when we were at the falls in late June/early July the falls were barely a trickle – so it was good to see them picked up.

Another shot from our trip to the Chimney Rock park. This time, the subject is Hickory Nut Falls. Though the falls weren’t a torrent on this day, the site is still beautiful and the geological forces at work here are
staggering.

Snapped the photo on the Blue Ridge Parkway a few years back. We parked along the road and hiked in a bit to get a couple shots of the water and waterfalls. A little shutter drag made for a nice shot of the water in motion.

Ruby Falls

January 7th, 2008

While in Chattanooga for the FCS NAtional Championship game, we visited Ruby Falls. Ruby Falls consists of a beautiful cave system and a gigantic underground waterfall. I couldn’t exactly picture how all that would work until I was standing at the base of the falls — then it all came together. A huge lighting display is synchronized to music and the view is really something else. While relatively hard to photograph it was absolutely stunning in person, a must see if you’re in the area.

Went back in the archive for this shot. This is Cascade Falls on the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina (milepost 272). It was a warm day in early April and we were searching for new places to hike. Amazing what a little shutter drag can do.
